The Klimes Institute offers a 30-hour CEcourse E30 in ethics consisting of 10 modules each with 60-item tests linked to those courses for $63 each. It also offers the 3-hour modules E31-40 as individual courses with 12-item tests linked to the end of each module for $21 each.

The course consists of ten modules dealing with ethical care, research ethics, palliative ethics, codes of ethics, Character education, golden rule ethics, conflict of interests, forgiveness and critical thinking. These modules equip the student with the various phases of care ethics so that they can use and evaluate ethical concept in their care-work.

E31. Ethical Care

It is the responsibility of all staff to ensure that each patient receives the best possible treatment under the circumstances of the setting as well as the available resources. Ethical care deals with the care patients receive in health-care settings. Students will be able to list the characteristics of care ethics, describe integrated ethics, and use care ethics in various relationships.
E32. Research Ethics
3 Credit Hours, $21
Individuals engaged in and using research need to understand the ethical issues involved. Research that lacks an ethical underpinning is useless. Learn to evaluate research as to its ethical basis, analyze the ethical issues related to the research, and choose ethically sound research studies.
E33. Palliative Ethics
3 Credit Hours, $21
The different aspects of palliative care such as pain and symptom control, psychosocial care, and end-of-life issues should be managed in an ethical manner, following the principles of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice–all carried out with honesty and dignity. Learn to describe the work of palliative care and palliative care nursing, issues in palliative ethics, and plan for problems involving palliative ethics.

When dealing with political ethics, we are concerned with the action of three main kinds of political actors: the political candidate campaigning for office; the political leader governing a political community; and average citizens (like you and me). Learn what constitutes good political ethics, about ethical political campaigning, ethical governing and good citizenship.

Codes of ethics are usually carefully prepared documents that give guidance to a specific population on how to deal with ethical issues. Learn to analyze various codes of ethics, write a simple code of ethics and evaluate codes of ethics.

Character education teaches the habits of thought and deed that help people live and work together as families, friends, neighbors, communities and nations. Develop the emotional, intellectual and moral qualities of a person or group. It must offer multiple opportunities for students to learn about, discuss and enact positive social behaviors.
E37. Golden Rule Ethics

Give what you want to get. That is a very simple summary of the Golden Rule. Gain an understanding of the meaning of the Golden Rule, be able to report how it is applied, and list ways how it fits into the study of ethics.
E38. Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest is a situation in which financial or other personal considerations have the potential to compromise or bias professional judgment and objectivity. Become equipped to make basic ethical recommendations in the conflict of interest area in health.

Forgiveness is the dealing with another person’s offense in a helpful manner. Learn to define healing forgiveness, describe forgiveness in various relationships, differentiate forgiveness from related activities, and recognize the cognitive, emotional and spiritual levels of forgiveness.
