Course Description
Improving My Wellness is a short course that examines the physiological and psychological aspects of personal health and wellness. The course analyzes the factors that contribute to or hinder mental and physical well-being, covering wellness definitions and assessments, body systems, psychological health, and mental health disorders. Learners will explore practical strategies for improving their overall wellness across physical, mental, social, spiritual, and environmental dimensions.
Course Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Define wellness and distinguish it from the mere absence of illness
- Identify the four essential ingredients of wellness and the five domains of health-related physical fitness
- Describe the ten Leading Health Indicators used to measure national health
- Explain the six dimensions of health and their impact on overall well-being
- Identify key body systems and describe how to care for physiological health, including the function of the digestive system
- Describe recommended health screenings and tests for women
- Explain strategies for developing and maintaining psychological health
- Define depression, identify its symptoms, and describe its prevalence and impact on individuals and society
- Identify the kinds, symptoms, and prevention strategies for common mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, and attention disorders

Online linked resources and lectures available anytime, 24/7. Includes one multiple-choice exam taken at the end of the course. Upon passing, learners may print their certificate immediately.

R. Klimes, PhD, MPH (Johns Hopkins University) is a scholar and author in health-related research, health behaviors, ethics, end-of-life care, and overall wellness. He has written numerous research reports and books and has held academic and leadership roles in higher education and public health internationally.
