Course Description

The goal of prevention is to eliminate or reduce harmful behavior. That includes unethical and illegal acts. Prevention Ethics examines if these preventive measures are ethical or not. This course covers the ethical foundations of prevention, professional codes of conduct, culturally sensitive practice, confidentiality, and applied case studies in prevention ethics.

Course Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the ethical foundations of prevention across social, educational, and clinical settings
  • Apply the Code of Ethical Conduct for Prevention Professionals to professional practice
  • Identify the six principles of prevention ethics including non-discrimination, competence, integrity, nature of services, confidentiality, and community obligations
  • Analyze case studies involving ethical dilemmas in prevention settings
  • Explain how cultural context influences prevention ethics and practice

Course Format:

Online linked resources and lectures available anytime, 24/7. Includes one multiple-choice exam taken at the end of the course. A passing grade of 75% is required. Upon passing, learners may print their certificate immediately.
